"A shining diamond (…) Simin Tander is a miracle of the art of singing"

- Het Parool, NL

Award winning and ECM recording artist Simin Tander is one of the most amazing voices in European jazz; she "balances on the boarders of pain and beauty, of gracefulness and passion." (Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, GE) and sings with an intensity that is rare to find.

With her enchantingly tender and equally expressive voice Simin builds bridges between occidental jazz and arabesque-like vocal flights, between rich songwriting and freely improvised textures. She draws a fascinating route to her Mid- Eastern heritage by also singing in Afghaani / Pashto, the language of her late father.

After a number of international festivals and two highly acclaimed albums with her former Dutch quartet, Simin Tander released her joint ECM record "What was said" (Annual German Critics Award, 2016) with star pianist Tord Gustavsen and toured the world.

Her current project "Simin Tander new quartet: Unfading" (Jazzhaus Records) combines rich songwriting with female poetry from Afghanistan and elsewhere, paying homage to inspiring, creative women across cultures and epoches, performed by a quartet of 4 exceptional musicians. Simin's unique approach to vocal improvisation remains a trademark of hers. Echoing her rich cultural heritage and creating her own language- full of life-enhanced freedom. The result is "utterly hypnotic (…) highly unconventional" (*****Concerto, AUT) and "extraordinary beautiful"(Norwegian Financial Times).

Simin teaches jazz & pop vocals at the "Hochschule für Musik Köln", Germany and gives worldwide workshops.
